The Center for Cross Cultural Learning Annual Newsletter
Proud to be involved in Cross cultural education
Since 1995

Dear CCCL friends,

It has become for some years now a CCCL tradition to send our friends all over the world an annual newsletter wishing you a happy New Year and informing you of our latest news.

We are celebrating in 2010 the CCCL 15th anniversary and are currently in the process of finalizing several activities that will take place all year round aiming at promoting the values we share, presenting the achievements we have acquired and highlighting the importance of cross cultural learning.

2009 has been a difficult year due to the number of wars that are continuing to take many innocent lives, the increasing social inequality and injustice around the globe and the world financial crisis that has badly hurt many of us.

Our enrollments did go down, fewer participants came to our Center and several programs had to be canceled.  Yet we look back with pride at the achievements we realized and the beautiful moments we shared and the new friendships we gained. We succeeded in launching a new program with Boston University, we organized a two week cultural program for the Mount Holyoke alumni and we hosted students from the Amsterdam Study Abroad program of the School for International Training twice.  CCCL has acquired a new building in bat, few blocks from the main site.  The new location has a nice library of more than 4000 books, a fine collection of DVDs, the independent study projects completed by our students since 1995, and a comfortable reading space.

The CCCL family has expanded to 33 full time staff in addition to our long list of part time guest speakers, university lecturers, travel guides, host families, instructors, and artists and music performers. Highlight of the CCCL staff happy moments in 2009 include the marriages of Ahlam Baoui, Arabic instructor, and Nawal Chaib, the assistant of the School for International Training Study Abroad program (see photo linked) as well as the engagements of Malika Lemdarsaoui the Exploritas coordinator in Morocco and Badrdine Boulaid, Arabic instructor.

In its 15 years of existence, the CCCL is proud to have hosted 5500 participants, aged from 4 to 94 years old, welcomed more than 3000 guests to evening cultural activities, collaborated with 80 families in the city of Rabat who have hosted our students, and organized 50 trainings for free to young Moroccans in the fields of language teaching, intercultural learning and tour leadership.  CCCL has expanded its partnership in Morocco and across the world to 50 universities, institutions and organizations.

We have been guided in these achievements by our firm belief in the need for building a better understanding between people through cross cultural dialogue and mutual respect.    We will continue to count on your collaboration, support and suggestions in order to maintain the high quality of our programs and services.  We are always committed to cross cultural learning and to fostering dialogue and peaceful exchange between peoples and cultures.

Please accept our best wishes to you and your families for a Happy New Year
